The Florida Football Alliance (FFA) celebrated its fifth year anniversary in 2012 with 16 member teams, down from 18 the previous season of 2011.  The regular season opened on January 21st, 2012, with three new entries into the league.  The Orlando Phantoms joined the FFA after spending their inaugural season in the United Football Federation (UFF), and were joined by the newly founded duo of the Charlotte County Reign and the Dade County Chiefs.

Five (5) teams departed from the FFA after the 2011 season.  The Duval Panthers moved to the UFF, while the Jacksonville Knights, post-season qualifiers the last two seasons, folded operations along with the Florida Crusaders, Brevard County Grizzlies, and Muck City Starrs.

Among the new teams that year, only the Reign would qualify for the league's post-season playoffs, but they would not advance past the Wildcard round.

The season was highlighted by four significant milestones and/or accomplishments.

For the first time in league history, FFA Championship Weekend was hosted in a location south of Daytona Beach.  League officials and its membership decided to host the event in Miramar where Alliance Bowl-V would be held at the football stadium located on the grounds of the recently constructed Ansin Sports Complex.

Secondly, after a three year absence, the Bradenton Gladiators returned to the Alliance Bowl Championship only to lose a nail-biter to the Orlando Rage, 35-30.

Additionally for the Rage, it was their second FFA Title in three years, a feat that had never been accomplished by any team in the FFA prior to the season of 2012. And lastly, it was the first Alliance Bowl Championship Game that did not include the Miami Magic City Bulls since the inception of the league in 2008.
